In accordance with this requirement, MASH serves as the primary agency for accountability of all certified homes in Massachusetts. Our organization also provides supervision and training for sober homes, and mash sober housing maintains a database of more than 180 MASH-certified sober homes. Sober living homes are a vital part of the recovery journey, providing a safe, supportive, and structured environment for individuals transitioning from treatment to independent living. In Massachusetts, these homes—especially those certified by the Massachusetts Alliance for Sober Housing (MASH)—help residents stay sober through peer support, accountability, and community. In July 2014, Massachusetts passed legislation that mandates the monitoring and voluntary certification of Massachusetts sober homes.

Written permission from the property owner of record (if the owner is other than the recovery residence operator) to operate a recovery residence on the property. Residents at Minnesota sober living homes usually have some free time at the end of their daily activities. To maintain sobriety, tenants of these homes can develop new hobbies, as boredom and idleness can lead some residents back to substance abuse. They can learn to exercise, read, paint, write, and do yoga, among other things. People leaving their inpatient treatment centers may find it difficult to readjust back into society.

This is why we focus so much attention on our residents attending meetings and building a foundation to live a safer and drug free life. One way you can do this is by developing strong bonds with other men in the house who are going through some of the same struggles as you.

Effective September 1, 2016, state agencies and their vendors shall only be able to refer clients to certified alcohol and drug free (ADF) housing. Any home not certified will not be able to accept clients from state agencies until certified. A contract was awarded to the Massachusetts Alliance for Sober Housing (MASH) to be the certifying body, and the training and technical assistance vendor. At Saint Paul Spirit House we provide a safe and encouraging environment for men to build a new and healthy lifestyle. Through 12-step recovery programs, accountability, structure, and stability, the men in our homes are achieving long-term success in their sobriety. We encourage our residents to become engaged in the community they live in through organized activities and recovery-related events and service opportunities.

The Phases of Sober Living in Minnesota
